Information about the SEVPÌýStudent OPT PortalÌý
While authorized for 12-month OPT,Ìýstudents are responsible for reporting any changes of employment within 10 days using their SEVP portalÌý
The link to set up the SEVP portal account will not be sent to students until their approved OPT period (as indicated on the EAD card), has begun. Prior to this, students will not be able to set up their Portal account.Ìý

The Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP)ÌýOPT PortalÌýallows students to report their OPT employment and address directly into SEVIS.
Âé¶¹³ÉÈ˰æ requires all students with 12-month post-completion OPT authorization to report their employment using the SEVPÌýPortal.
- Students will be contacted by SEVP directly, via email, to invite you to create/register your SEVP Portal account.
- SEVP will email you instructions on creating an account in the OPT Portal.
- This email will come from do-not-reply.sevp@ice.dhs.gov.
- This email will be sent after your start date as listed on your EAD card, typically within a week of your approved start date.
- You may not receive this email to create yourÌýSEVP Portal prior to this date.Ìý
- Be sure to check your SPAM/JUNK folders, as this may be flagged as spam by your email host.
- If you do not see the email within one week afterÌýyour start date has arrived, email Global@njit.edu with a copy of your EAD card to request to have this sent.Ìý
- If your account is locked, you cannot reset your password yourself from the Portal.
- Your DSO at Âé¶¹³ÉÈ˰æ cannot reset your password, and can only request that SEVP resend the portal link once your account is fully locked.
- If your account is locked, you must email Global@njit.edu to request to have the SEVP Portal link re-sent to you.

The SEVP Portal will not allow you to report a new job/employment changesÌýmore than 10 days after the employment start date/the change occurs.Ìý

For example, if you want to report a new job that started on June 1, you must report it in the SEVP portal by June 11. Otherwise, you will not be able to enter the correct start date.

If you fail to report your employment within the 10 day required timeframeÌýin your SEVP portal, you can submit a reporting through the International Student Portal.Remember:Ìýit is your responsibility to report your employment on time. Reporting any changes in employment within 10 days is a requirement to maintain your immigration status.

- STEM Extension students may not use the SEVPÌýPortal to report changes in their STEM employment.

- I am on my 12-month OPT. Am I required to use SEVP’s OPT Portal?
Yes. Starting on June 11, 2018, you will no longer be able to use the Highlander Pipeline to report your employment. You must report any new, change, or end of employment through the SEVIS Portal. Your SEVIS record will be automatically updated when you submit your changes.
- How do I create an account?
All students with approved OPT, including STEM extension students, will receiveÌýan email from SEVP with clear instructions on how to create their account. This email will not be sent until your OPT period has begun.ÌýCarefully check all email addresses, including old email addresses and your SPAM folder, because SEVP may have used an email that you provided in your Âé¶¹³ÉÈ˰æ application years ago. - I am on STEM extension - how does this SEVP Portal impact me?
It doesn’t. Students on STEM extension cannot report employment through the SEVIS Portal. Therefore, you MUST continue to use the Highlander Pipeline to report any changes with your employment and change of address. STEM OPT students are notÌýable to add a new employer or change the start date with their employer but can update other information about an employer already in the system.
- I am on STEM Extension - how do I report my employment?
All students on STEM Extension OPT are required to continue to report their employment through the myGlobal portal. For more detailed information visit our website Ìý/global/opt-reporting/
- I reported my employment in the myGlobal portal a few months ago and no changes have occurred to my employment since then. Do I need to re-enter my employment in the new SEVP Portal?
If you have already reported your employment to Âé¶¹³ÉÈ˰æ using the myGlobal portal, and you have received an email confirming that your employment has been uploaded to SEVIS, then you do NOT need to re-submit your employment information in the SEVIS Portal.
- What should I do if I have trouble accessing my account in the SEVIS Portal?
SEVP has aÌýÌýwith step-by-step videos and instructions. However, if your account is locked because you forgot your password, please contact our office to have your portal account reset.
