Do I need to take the placement assessment?

Transfer students who do not receive transfer credits for the first- level of听English听 and/or mathematics (Pre-Calculus or Calculus) are required to take the听 placement assessment. It is in your best interest to take your placement assessment(s) as soon as possible in order to register early and for the appropriate courses.

How do I register for the placement assessment?

Do I need to come to campus to take the placement assessment?

No, you do not have to come to campus to take the placement assessment; it's听administered remotely.

How long is the placement assessment?

The English placement assessment is approximately 1 hour. You are required to write an essay听on selected topics - 50 minutes and complete a survey - approximately 20 minutes. The math placement assessment听is approximately 2 hours and is divided into three sections: Basic Algebra (25 problems, 30 minutes), Advance Algebra (25 problems, 30听minutes) and Trigonometry (30 problems, 45 minutes).听No calculators usage on the math placement assessment.

Is it necessary to prepare for the placement assessment?

Since the听placement assessment听is used听to determine the level of the course in which you will need to register, we strongly recommend that you prepare.听We provide practice and 听for the math placement assessment as well as a听听补苍诲 . There are no study materials for the English placement assessment.听

When will I receive my听results?

Within 10 business days via e-mail.听

If I听receive extra time on exams at my current/previous school, how do I receive the same accommodations on the placement assessment?

You need to contact the Office of Accessibility Resources & Services (OARS) at听 oars@njit.edu or call (973) 596-2994 to make arrangements for accommodation during the placement assessment. What if I score poorly on my听placement assessment can a retake it?

The placement assessment is used to determine听the first level course in which you will be placed and should register. If you believe that your initial math placement assessment scores are not representative of your听 capabilities and level, you may request a one-time retake of the math placement assessment that can be scheduled at least 2 weeks after your first math placement assessment date. (No calculators permitted)

Retaking the English placement assessment is at the discretion of the Humanities and Social Science Department, you need to contact them at: (973) 596-3269 or听humanities@njit.edu.

Can I be exempt from taking the placement assessment?

Transfer students who have taken the Advanced Placement Exam听(AP)听补苍诲/or International Baccalaureate (IB)听course during high school and meet 麻豆成人版's听criteria are听eligible to be exempt from taking the placement assessment. 听 Of course, receipt of听 transfer credit from a previous college/university for the appropriate first-level math and English course will make you eligible for exemption.听 For more information, please contact the听Placement Testing Office at (973) 596-8389 or email placementtesting@njit.edu.

If I am eligible to receive听advanced placement course credits, where do I send my results?

You should request that your official electronic AP score report or听IB听certificate be immediately sent to:听New Jersey Institute of Technology, Office of Admissions, University Heights, Newark New Jersey 07102.听 If you have taken a course in high school that听was affiliated with a college/university, you need to have an official transcript sent from that college/university to the Registrar;s Office.

What does my course placement mean?

Course placements in math and English are determined by the results of your听placement assessment(s) and/or advance course credit.听Your course placement lets you know the course in which you should听register.听
